Adsorbent Hollow Fiber (AHF) was officially released at The Seventh World Chemical Engineering Congress 2005.

Originally developed by Dr. Chin Chi Tai in his Ph.D. program at the Department of Chemical Engineering of the University of Bath, several invented patents about AHF were filed with Dr. Semali Perera. The adjustable multi-layer and finger-like structure in AHF shorten the mass-transfer-zone which makes the target gases can be reached the adsorption sites more easily and cause more efficiently captured in a short time. Its unique structure also makes AHFs have higher adsorption and desorption behavior than pellet-type molecular sieve and sorption wheel.

Today, Dr. Chin Chi Tai leads a startup, Aura Material Ltd., and successfully applies this cutting-edge AHF technology in various fields.

Here are some key milestone.

2004

Been selected as Britain’s Younger Engineers at the House of Commons, London, UK

  • Chin-Chih Tai, Jonathan Shanks, Edwige Sima-Ella, and Benjamin Lindsey had been specially selected as Bath’s brightest engineering talents
  • The first time of AHF official presentation.

2007

Nano-porous solution Ltd. company was established. Spin-off from University of Bath (Novel adsorbent hollow fiber technology)

The Royal Society’s Brian Mercer Award, UK, £ 185,000

Carbon Trust’s research grant awarded £ 250,000, Carbon Trust, UK. Dr C. C. Tai, C. Billiet and Dr S. P. Perera, Nano-Porous Solutions Ltd.

Compared to traditional treatment, AHF technology provided the compressed air industry a more effective way in reducing energy consuming and carbon footprint. This green Technology was awarded a grant of ₤250K from the carbon trust’s Applied Research scheme.

2008

Adsorbent hollow fibres (AHF) technology has been selected as ten top technologies in 2008, UK.

  • Exhibiting a great potential in CO2 capture, concentration and re-utilizing, AHF was selected as ten top technologies in 2008, UK.
  • Meanwhile, the performance of AHF in CO2 capture was evaluated by a CO2 removal project applied in the life support system of space stations and astronauts was collaborated by Dr. Chin Chi Tai, Dr. Semali Perera, and Hamilton Sundstrand. Not only drop-down CO2 concentration in seconds but keeping the removal efficiency with performance testing, AHF was proof of its potential in avoiding CO2 poisoning in a confined space.

2010

Dept. of Porous Material and Technology was set up by Material and Chemical Research Laboratories in Industrial Technology Research Institute. Dr. Chin Chi Tai was the leader of the team.

2011

AHF Application Platform

  • Gases (CO2, CH4, VOCs…) capture, concentration, purification and reused.
  • Gases Drying and Solvent Purifications
  • Development of multi-channel AHF
  • Ceramic-Type AHF applied in Beverage, dairy product and drinking water
  • Separation of small molecular compounds and protein in Pharmaceutical Plant

2013

AuraMat.® Gas Dryer series and Purifier series are launched.

These products supply not only domestic but also international demand.

  • CO2 capture and storage project
  • Development of Indoor dehumidifier
  • NH4+-N treatment and solvent purification like IPA, ethanol, or acetone
  • Development of antibacterial AHF

2017

Aura Material Ltd. spun off from ITRI and the Dept. of Porous Material and Technology in ITRI is officially closed at the same time.

2018

Admitted being Relocated to Hsinchu Science Park. Production lines were set up. Developing customized dryer and VOCs processing model system.

2020

AuraMat.® Gas Dryer series and Purifier series are launched. These products supply not only domestic but also international demand.

AuraMat.® VOCs treatment equipment and Gas Dryer is highly recognized by clients in energy-saving and outstanding processing performance. The key technology of AuraMat is AHF, which can replaced commercial adsorbent pellets and adsorption wheel in semiconductor and panel industries. No dusting, no outgassing and less energy consuming are the advantages of AuraMat.® products.

2021

Being in the global supply chains of low-carbon economy and hydrogen energy.

Customized CO2 harvesting system/apparatus can be well-designed to fit the needs from IAQ, DAC and flue gas. Captured CO2 can be further concentrated and purified for other use.
